Visions of Wallingford

How does a neighborhood learn?

These are a few of the dozens of people who are making this project possible.

Majken Ryherd

Majken is one of the founders of Waypoint Consulting, a lobbying firm that focuses on the Washington State Legislature. Before co-founding Waypoint, she was the Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House in the Washington State Legislature. Before this position, Majken was a contract lobbyist, representing primarily health, human services and low-income housing non-profits and associations.

Barb Burrill

Barb has lived in Wallingford since getting married on the Skansonia ferry in 1992. She is a fruit tree care consultant, educator, and pruner. She worked for local nonprofit City Fruit for over ten years after retiring from Alaska Airlines in 2008. Barb was profiled last year as a “serial volunteer” in Wallyhood which recaps her volunteer exploits in and around Wallingford.

Bridget Culligan

Bridget started her mosaic journey when she agreed to turn over her studio to Majken (who lives across the alley) for her Cultura project. This massive mural for Puget Sound Solar (it’s over 800 sq. ft.) used materials donated through Ridwell and filled her studio with mountains of tile and waves of volunteers. A natural teacher, Bridget enjoys coaching her students to express their innate creativity.

Ari Hock

Ari is a PhD candidate in the College of Education at the University of Washington. As a learning scientist, he studies community learning environments using design-based research methods. Ari is an avid filmmaker, skateboarder, martial artist, and a novice gardener.

Ted Hunter

Ted has been a member of the Wallingford Community Council for over twenty years, and has lived in the Wallingford neighborhood for over forty years. He’s worked to bring a playground to the Good Shepherd Center, helped make Wallingford Playfield a reality, helped improve the ballfields at Woodland Park, and helped make local waterways open to public access.

EJ Johnson

Eric “EJ” Johnson is a multi-instrumental artist and producer originally from New York.  He has played in numerous bands in the Pacific Northwest, operates his own music studio (Sky Audio Productions), and writes for TV and film projects.  He also runs his own painting and construction business, practices and teaches Qi Gong and martial arts, and likes tacos.

Dr. Claire Barnett

Claire has been creating and teaching mosaics for over 20 years. She began after the tragic death of her two young daughters in 2000. As her own backyard filled with memorial garden stones, Claire began expanding her studies to incorporate the therapeutic nature of mosaics into her medical practice. In 2009 Claire opened Seattle Mosaic Arts, a community based studio in Wallingford.

Alan Herbig

Alan has lived in Wallingford since 1964. He attended McDonald Elementary, Marshall Junior High and Lincoln High, graduating in ’72. He’s very happy to see McDonald and Lincoln reopen! He and his wife (another Lincoln grad) bought a house in the neighborhood in 1977 and raised their 2 UW grads here. Alan is a dedicated Wallingfordian, cautious of radical change, but appreciates change with some dimensionality!

Margaret Jerabek

Margaret lives in a 1919 Craftsman that her parents have been restoring since they bought it in 2004. She attends the John Stanford International School and is set to graduate this summer from the Japanese language immersion program. Margaret and her friend Zoe are available to review products for kids or cats, through their production company, ELC Media.

Judith Stoloff

Judith is a professional planner who has worked on affordable housing issues for over 40 years. She has provided housing and community planning expertise to all levels of government as a consultant and program manager.
